Session Description:

Activated carbon, melt-blown polymer and organophilic clay are several adsorbent materials utilized for groundwater, soil, and sediment remediation. This presentation will describe the properties and functions of these absorbents. ASTM test methods applicable to each material will be discussed. These adsorbent materials are available in bulk and/or mats and various environmental applications will be presented.


Learning Objectives:

Attendees will learn about properties of several adsorbent media, test methods for characterizing these adsorbent media, and how they can be applied to environmental remediation.


Jim Olsta, PE, HUESKER Inc.

Mr. Olsta has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a PE and has been working on remediation projects for 30 years. Jim is a member of various ASTM task groups. He holds several patents on environmental products and has co-authored numerous papers in environmental journals.
